Guidelines for Abstract Submission
A: Original Research
- Basic Science/Pharmacology
- Electrophysiology/Heart Failure
- Imaging/Preventive Cardiology
- Intervention/Structural Heart/Surgery
B: Clinical Case Reports
All Abstracts must be submitted electronically. All submissions must be original work that has not been previously published. A submitter, presenter or co-author submitting or presenting published work will lead to the withdrawal of the abstract from the Scientific Programme
All accepted abstracts from each category will be presented orally. Prizes will be awarded for the top original research abstracts in each category.
In addition, original research abstract submitters may be eligible for the Young Investigator Award (YIA) competition upon meeting eligibility criteria (see YIA tab).
Note to NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine undergraduate students submitting abstracts for the Chia Boon Lock Cardiology Medal and Prize:
Please format your abstract according to the guidelines of the SCS ASM 2024 abstract competition and indicate in the submission that you are submitting as an undergraduate student of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
In addition to your submission for the Chia Boon Lock Cardiology Medal and Prize, your submission will be considered for presentation at the SCS ASM 2024 General Abstract/Young Investigator Award competition, if the abstract fulfils the eligibility criteria. All abstracts accepted for the SCS ASM will be presented orally.
You may choose to be considered only for the Chia Boon Lock Cardiology Medal and Prize and opt out of the SCS ASM 2024 Abstract/Young Investigator Award competition. Opting out of the SCS ASM 2024 Abstract/Young Investigator Award competition will not affect the grading of your abstract for the Chia Boon Lock Cardiology Medal and Prize.
The SCS ASM abstracts committee will grade and submit the scores of all abstracts to NUS. The eventual recipient of the Chia Boon Lock Cardiology Medal and Prize will be decided by the YLLSOM Board of Undergraduate Studies.
Please note that the Primary Contact should be the Presenting Author.
If the abstract is accepted for presentation, the Presenting Author must acknowledge the abstract acceptance and register for the meeting before the stipulated deadline (February 28, 2024), failing which the abstract will be withdrawn. Complimentary registration for the full meeting will be accorded to Presenting authors of accepted abstracts.
Multiple submissions from one person on behalf of multiple presenting authors are NOT allowed. If you are submitting the abstract on behalf of the presenting author, please enter presenting author’s information as the Primary Contact.
Original Research Abstracts should be organised in the following format:
- Background
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusion
Clinical Case Reports should be organised in the following format:
- Background
- Case report
- Discussion
Title
- The abstract title must not exceed 75 words in length.
- The title must be typed in title case, except for study names.
- Do not use abbreviations in the title.
- Do not end the title with a period.
- Do not include authors, institutions, city names, trademarks and abbreviations in the title.
Abstract Body
All abstracts must be submitted (and will be presented) in English spelling with accurate grammar and spelling suitable for publication.
The word limit is 300 words (does not include title and authors).
When using non-standard abbreviations, spell them out in full the first time they appear in the text followed by the abbreviations in parentheses. Capitalize the first letter of trade names. Do NOT enter author or affiliation information in the abstract text box.
Image
A maximum of one image may be included to the abstract. Each image counts as 100 words.
Your image file must meet the following requirements:-
- Format: GIF, JPEG, JPG or PNG format at 300 dpi and 100% size. Any higher resolution is acceptable.
- File size: Less than 5 MB
- Dimensions: Measures no larger than 1920 pixels x 1080 pixels
Please indicate in your submission if you would like your abstract to be considered for the Young Investigator Award.
To be eligible, submitters must fulfil the following:
- The first author must be below 40 years old at the time of presentation (before April 25, 2024)
- The first author must be the presenting author.
- The research work must be done locally in Singapore, with the first author playing a major role in the study.
- The research must be original, not previously published or accepted for publication in any form, including electronic publication, at the time of submission.
The Programme Committee reviews and grades each abstract submission for quality and scientific merit. A blind grading process is used to ensure anonymity and equality.
Notifications of abstract acceptance will be sent to the Presenting Author by March 21, 2024.
